The relationship between some of BC’s most remote Indigenous communities in need and Helicopters Without Borders (HWB), a Canadian charity dedicated to honouring rural Indigenous communities, began earlier this year and as they connected with SPUD.ca, a local online grocer with a deep commitment to their communities, hurdles were overcome and help was on the way.
In order to deliver on their first, urgent request to fill some of the gaps created from food insecurity, SPUD.ca worked with BC Fresh to donate 700 pounds of fresh vegetables. With so many remote Indigenous communities in need, the partners have pledged to work together in the coming year to do what they can to help.
HWB is in its first year of operation has worked with local First Nations to deliver vaccines, medications, PPE, clinicians, fresh produce, non-perishables and other needed cargo to its partner communities. HWB has a strong belief in building a sustainable future for generations, which is why they are fully carbon neutral for all its flight and does so by carbon offsetting Coastal First Nations(CFN) efforts in the restoration of the Great Bear Rainforest.
