The cooler weather has arrived, and as we continue to navigate the “new normal” we’re spending more time at home. With this in mind, now is the perfect time to update your favourite living spaces.
In her latest video, Karla Dreyer of Karla Dreyer Design shares the top 5 kitchen trends of 2020, and how you can incorporate them into your home. Click below to watch the full video, which includes some great examples.
1) Trend #1: Shapes and Curves
While kitchens tend to be very linear, we’re seeing more shapes and curves incorporated into kitchen designs this year. Through getting creatively curvy with your backsplash designs, island shapes, and wall and decor cutouts, you can create a softer space that will feel unique and cozy.
2) Trend #2: Tumbled Stone and Tile
Incorporate features that give off a town and country, or castle-like vibe in your kitchen. Combine clean modern finishes with a stone feature wall or large textured stone tiles to create a tumbled, natural look that will warm up your kitchen workspace while keeping it fresh and clean.
3) Trend #3: Wood Cabinets and Millwork
Consider moving away from the clean and polished look of the traditional wood cabinets and opt instead for a natural, grainy wood style. Choose recycled, sustainable wood materials that show the grains and textures, and enjoy unique cabinetry that looks great while also incorporating earth-friendly choices into your kitchen design.
4) Trend #4: Slab Backsplashes
It’s becoming a common choice to use the same materials for both the counter tops and the backsplash. Not only does this make the design decisions easier, but it creates a seamless, clean look for your kitchen. This also works well for small spaces, creating a bigger feel.
5) Trend #5: Coloured Cabinets
While the classic white, modern kitchen look will never go out of style, adding a pop of colour with bright cabinets is becoming a popular choice as well. Get ahead of kitchen trends and consider adding the new Benjamin Moore Colour of 2021: Aegean Teal to your cabinets. Colouring your cabinets in your favourite hues is a great way to create a space you’ll love.
