We love coffee! In fact, for many West Coasters, it has become a bit of an obsession. The common coffee question is no longer, “Do you like coffee?” but instead, “How do you like your coffee?”
Unfortunately, many people use disposable coffee pods, which make their way into Canadian landfills every year, resulting in over one BILLION pods going straight into the trash.
Canadian company Canterbury Coffee has been roasting, packaging, and selling premium coffee for more than 35 years. They saw the popularity of single-serve coffee pods and knew there had to be a better solution. After years of development and testing, they have now launched a fully compostable single-serve pod for coffee lovers: OneCoffee.
Compostable coffee pods by OneCoffee
BC-based OneCoffee takes it even further to ensure that their coffee is organic, fair trade, and with the least impact on the planet. All of the coffee used in their pods are made from 100% Arabica, high-quality beans that are tested and judged. The “cupping” process is performed by their Roast Master, who is one of a select group of Q-graders in Canada. Maybe a career to aspire to for you coffee lovers out there!
Their varieties include Breakfast Blend, Colombian Blend, Peruvian Blend, Ethiopian Blend, French Roast, and Sumatran Blend. They also use a process that is 100% chemical free to produce a delicious caffeine-free coffee.
We were invited to join OneCoffee for a tasting recently, and we were very impressed by the beautiful flavours of the coffee selections, and by the passion of their team.
Something we take for granted every day – a simple cup of coffee – could have so many implications, good and bad. If you want to start your day knowing you are making a positive difference, this could be your cup of coffee!
Where to Buy OneCoffee Products
Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, Sobeys, Marketplace IGA, Choices, Whole Foods Market, and other local independent grocers carry OneCoffee pods. You can also buy them online from Well.ca, Amazon.ca, Walmart.ca, and other online retailers.
Help Make the Change
Environmentally friendly pods were a big change in the coffee industry, but this was still not enough for the team at OneCoffee. Because many municipal commercial compost facilities still do not accept compostable plastics, they have started a petition to have this changed, and to require ALL pods to be compostable.
